Simplicity Manufacturing Company makes Simplicity lawn mowers. Simplicity is an American company headquartered in Port Washington, Wisconsin where they manufacture lawn and garden equipment under a variety of brands.

The Simplicity company was started by William J. Niederkorn in 1922. It started its operations by manufacturing walk-behind two-wheeled tractors in 1939. The company has undergone many changes ever since.

Simplicity Manufacturing Company is presently owned by Biggs & Stratton.

Early Years

During World War Two, the company altered its lawn and garden equipment production and focused on manufacturing electric fences and surface grinders. The two products were in high demand as a result of the war.

In 1965, Simplicity Manufacturing was bought by Allis Chalmers. Simplicity management, however, purchased it back in 1983. Simplicity went on to buy Middlesworth Company of Greentown, Indiana, US. Middlesworth manufactured zero-turn mowers.

Other developments by Simplicity include building lawn and garden tractors for Rapid, Homelite, Viking, Montgomery Ward, and JCPenney.

Simplicity built and sold Deutz-Allis Lawn & Garden Equipment after AGCO purchased Deutz-Allis from Deutz-Fahr and KHD. Later the name changed from Agco-Allis Lawn & Garden Equipment to AGCO Lawn & Garden Equipment.

Simplicity also built and sold the Massey Ferguson Lawn & Garden Equipment after AGCO bought Massey Ferguson.

The Year 2000 to date

Simplicity bought Ferris Industries, a turf care machinery company based in Munnsville, New York.

In 2002, Simplicity again purchased the Snapper Company and went ahead to begin building the Allis-Chalmers Lawn & Garden Equipment in 2009

In 2004, Briggs & Stratton bought Simplicity Manufacturing Company and still owns the company up to this date. Briggs & Stratton is based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, US. The two companies are mower builders.
