Malley's Chocolates has been creating the best sweet treats in Northeast Ohio since 1935. Opened during the height of the Great Depression, Albert “Mike” Malley aspired to achieve his version of the American Dream: to own his own chocolate-making business. As a boy in Meadville, Pennsylvania, he had worked in a chocolate store learning to create hand-made chocolates using a simple copper pot over an open flame. As a young husband and father, he borrowed $500, rented a small store and living quarters at Lewis Dr. and Madison Ave. in Lakewood, Ohio, and moved his family into the back rooms. He then purchased the materials and supplies needed to become a professional chocolatier and ice cream concoctioner. His wife, Jo, saw to it that the bills were paid on time, and together, they realized their dream. Today, the Malley's Chocolates operates 18 retail stores across the region and a modern chocolate-making factory occupies our five-acre, 60,000 sq. ft. headquarters, where new chocolate ideas mix with long-time customer favorites.

  This week, Malley’s team members traveled to the 2024 Promise Holdings Consumer Packaged Goods Executive Summit. Leadership from eight companies in the Promise Holdings portfolio heard from experts in subjects like investment banking, hiring, supply chain and facilities management, and marketing. They also had the opportunity to network, collaborate, and share tactics and strategies that are working at their respective companies. The meeting was incredibly productive and the Malley’s team returned ready to leverage their learnings and new relationships.

  Today we held our monthly lunch and tour with the CEO! Mike Malley joined team members from our retail stores, factory and office support staff to talk products and operations over lunch. After that, he led everyone on an official factory tour. Great ideas and new perspectives often come from these sessions, and we are grateful for the team members who made time to attend today.

  Global cocoa prices are surging this year because of extreme weather conditions in West Africa, the largest producer of cocoa in the world. But, when cocoa prices go up, Malley's gets creative.   Today was an incredibly special day at Malley’s headquarters! Through A Special Wish Northeast Ohio Chapter, we had the opportunity to host a guest chocolatier named Eleanore.This morning, Eleanore was greeted by Bill Malley in our Brook Park retail store. After getting her official Malley’s shirt and a photo in front of the silos, our delivery truck whisked her away to the loading dock where she began a tour of the factory. There, she had the chance to make her favorite treat – chocolate covered pretzels…with sprinkles! After all of her hard work on the production line, Eleanore taste tested some of our products in development. She gave out two perfect 10s!The entire Malley’s team sends our best to Eleanore and her family, as well as our sincere thanks to A Special Wish for the wonderful work they do.
