    Resin Coverage Area Calculator

Formula for the area of a square of rectangle

Epoxy Resin Calculator: Calculate Volume & Area Coverage | AeroMarine (8)

    Area = Length x Width

    Instructions:

How much epoxy resin do I need for a table?

    1) Measure the length and width of your table in square feet.
    2) Enter the numbers into the calculator (the order doesn't matter)
    3) Press Calculate
    4) Now that you have the area in ft2, choose a desired thickness of the epoxy resin layer (we generally recommend 1/8 of an inch).
    5) Find the area you previously calculated in epoxy resin coverage chart (below) at the desired thickness to find the resin kit size you will need.

    Example:

Say you want to cover a table with measured length 5 ft by width 7 ft.
    1. Area = Length x Width
    2. Area = 5ft x 7ft = 35ft2
    3. Using 1/8” as the desired thickness, 35ft2 is between 3 and 6 gallons so I will need the 6 gallon kit for my project.

    Volume of a Rectangle Calculator

Formula for the volume or a square or rectangle for mold

Epoxy Resin Calculator: Calculate Volume & Area Coverage | AeroMarine (10)

    Instructions:

This calculator is useful for calculating the volume of epoxy resin to mold or encapsulate an object in a rectangle or to calculate the amount of silicone needed to make your own mold.

Formula for the volume of a rectangle or square for mold making – Volume = Length x Width x Height

    1) Measure the length, width, and height of the rectangle you want to create or the mold box you want to form.
    2) Enter your measurements in inches into the appropriate box
    3) If you are looking to encase an object in epoxy in the shape of a rectangle, click calculate and use the volume to pick the appropriate sized kit for your project.
    4) If you are making a mold, measure the length, width, and height of the object you want to mold.
    5) Enter the measurements into the object boxes and click calculate.
    6) This is the volume of silicone rubber you will need to make your mold.

    Example:

    1. You have a measured mold box that is 4 inches x 5 inches x 3 inches.

    • The volume needed to fill the entire box is volume = 4 x 5 x 3 = 60 cubic inches.
    • Calculate the volume of your object say it is 10 cubic inches.
    • Subtract the volume of the box from the object to get the volume needed to make the mold.
      • 60 cubic inches (box) - 10 cubic inches (object) = 50 cubic inches needed
    • To calculate the volume of mold making solution needed, convert cubic inches to gallons.
      • There is 1 gallon in 231 cubic inches.
      • Divide the final volume by 231 to get 0.22 gallons which is an estimate of the amount of mold making liquid you will need.

    Volume of a Cylinder Calculator

This calculator is useful for calculating the volume of epoxy resin to mold or encapsulate an object in a cylinder or to calculate the amount of silicone needed to make your own mold using a cylinder.

Epoxy Resin Calculator: Calculate Volume & Area Coverage | AeroMarine (12)

    Instructions:

    1) Measure the radius and height of the cylinder you want to use as your mold box.
    • To calculate the radius, measure the diameter of the circle and divide the number by 2.
    2) Enter your measurements in feet into the appropriate boxes.
    3) If you are looking to encase an object in epoxy in the shape of a cylinder, click calculate and use the volume to pick the appropriate sized kit for your project.
    4) If you are making a mold, measure the radius and height of the object you want to make a mold out of.
    5) Enter the measurements into the object boxes and click calculate.
    • If your object is not a cylinder, you can calculate the volume of the object and enter thevolume in ft3 into the object volume box and click calculate.
    6) This is the volume of silicone rubber you will need to make your mold.

    Example:

    1. The diameter of your mold is 3” and the height of your cylinder mold is 3”.

    • Find the radius by dividing the diameter by 2
      • R = D/2 = 3”/2 = 1.5 inches
    • Find the volume of your cylinder using the formula for the volume of a cylinder, V = πr2h where r is the radius and h is the height
      • V=πr2h = π(1.5)2x 3 = 21.2 cubic inches
    • Subtract the volume of your part and convert to gallons to get the final of silicone mold making liquid needed.
      • If your part is 10 cubic inches and 1 gallon is 231 cubic inches.
        • 21.2 –10 = 11.2 cubic inches needed
          • 11.2 cubic inches/231 = 0.05 gallons of mold making liquid needed
